This year, the Archery Trade Association (ATA) held its annual show in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. With over 500 booths and more than 8000 attendees, the show offers the die-hard bowhunter and/or competitive shooter the opportunity to see, hold, and touch the latest and greatest that the archery and hunting industry has to offer.
With two full days to see what the show has to offer, I hit the floor searching for some new gear to test out in the upcoming year. The following products are items that either caught my eye as great new technologies/inventions, or upgrades on some already gear.
Mulie Doe from Montana Decoys Montana Decoys offers a new folding doe that could serve cross purposes for blacktails and hybrids alike. |
This past elk season was the first time I used a Montana Decoy, so as I neared their booth, I was well aware that they made some of the best packable decoys on the market. With over 18 different decoys to choose from, I figured they had to have something new that us western guys could appreciate. So, for 2008, Montana Decoy is offering a muley doe that collapses to 13” x 12” and weighs in at only 30oz. Without a doubt, this doe could easily pass for a pacific hybrid or Columbian blacktail and could pull in that wary buck on a late season hunt.
Strolling past the Edge Expedite booth, I couldn’t help but stop and take a closer look. They offer a full line of stationary and motion decoys for game birds, waterfowl, turkey, as well as predator hunting. Two products really stood out, the first one being a lightweight foldable fawn decoy, a product that would work extremely Fawn decoy from Edge Expedite This fawn decoy from Edge Expedite looks like a tasty morsel for hungry predators. well on early season coyotes or spring bear. The other notable decoy is their Quiver Critter. It’s one of the most realistic looking rabbit motion decoys that I’ve seen. Now add an electronic caller or reed call and you’ve got a deadly predator combination.
Next month I go into greater detail on two great new products from G5 Outdoors and how Sitka is redefining what we wear in the field, including a sneak peak at their new Sitka 45 Bivy backcountry pack.
