BRANSON, Missouri -- Declaring that conservation efforts on behalf of bobwhite quail and other native grasslands birds are "far inadequate" to stop their decline in the U.S., a national coalition of 25 state wildlife agencies has issued a new situation assessment and a call for decisive action. The report was unveiled at the annual conference of the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association here.

WASHINGTON -- America’s wetlands declined slightly from 2004-2009, underscoring the need for continued conservation and restoration efforts, according to a report issued today by the Department of the Interior’s U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The findings are consistent with the Service’s Status and Trends Wetlands reports from previous decades that reflect a continuous but diminishing decline in wetlands habitat over time.

Hot weather made it difficult for many hunters to find bucks during this fall's general muzzleloader buck deer hunt.
Utah's muzzleloader deer hunt ended on Oct. 6. Next up is the state's most popular hunt, the general rifle buck deer hunt.
The rifle hunt starts Oct. 22. Between now and then, Anis Aoude says colder temperatures would help hunters a bunch.
