TURNER"S OUTDOORSMAN TEJON HOG HUNTS FOR 2004

Turner's Outdoorsman Tejon Ranch hog hunt success rate jumps in May.

Jim Matthews, ONS 5/26/04

Nine hunters bagged five hogs this past weekend hunting on the latest Turner's Outdoorsman Tejon Ranch non-guided hunt. It was the best success rate of the five hunts held so far this year.

"We're seeing a lot more pigs now," said Jack Ku, who hosts the hunts on the Tejon for Turner's "Everybody saw pigs and most of the guys had shots."

Ku said that the hunting had been tougher this year than last season, noting that weather, moon, and road conditions had worked against hunters until the most recent hunts. The hunt the May 14-16 weekend had four pigs taken by 11 hunters, and three of those hogs were trophy boars. Ku also said there was a Ham Slam event with around 50 hunters from JessesHunting.Com who shot 20 hogs over May 21-23, 2004 weekend.

Three Turner's hunts scheduled this season still have openings -- July 9-11, 2004, July 23-25, 2004, and August 6-8, 2004. Ku said the hunts in the summer are always some of the best because there is less pressure in the summer and the hogs are predictably coming to water sources each day.

The hunt series is run by Turner's Outdoorsman and the California Hog Hunter newsletter. For more information or updates on hunt availability, call the newsletter office at (909) 887-3444.

A verbal reservation list for these hunts, which are consponsored by California Hog Hunter and Mike Raahauge Shooting Enterprises, has been created for each hunt date, along with waiting lists. After the first of the year, hunters with reservations will be asked to send checks to confirm their reservations. Interested hunters should the call California Hog Hunter office now (909-475-1133) to reserve slots for a hunt date or to get their names at the top of the waiting lists for any date.

For more information, contact Don Geivet or Barbara, Tejon Ranch Company , P.O. Box 1000, Lebec, CA 93243, or call (661) 663-4208 or (661) 663-4209. Email Barbara at bbb@frazmtn.com.

PIG-O-RAMA (POR) AKA HAM SLAM.

The Tejon Ranch will be hosting “Pig-O-Ramas” Dec 12-14 2003, Jan 30 - Feb. 2 2004, Mar. 12-14 2004, April 23 - 25 2004 and June 11 - 13, 2004 and will pay a $500 cash prize for the largest hanging, field-dressed hog taken during the 2 1/2-day events. This is an unguided hunt. Entry and hunting fee is $300 per person and entitles the hunter to shoot one pig. In addition, all hunters must have a ranch insurance policy (an additional $10). Those who have hunted the Tejon since Sept. 1, 2003 should already have the insurance policy and do not need to purchase another one. The event will run from noon Friday through 5 p.m. Sunday, and all hunters must check in and out each day of the event. This is the one of a series of Pig-O-Ramas the Tejon will be hosting over the coming months with events about every two months, according to Don Geivet, game manager at the Tejon. This hunt success is running around 50% which is very good and the price of $300.00 is about the best you can get for a private land pig hunt in California. 4x4 vehicle recommended for winter hunts. Chains also to help on the slick muddy mountain roads.

Update: The Pig-O-Ramas will be going to $400.00 per person for the fall 2004 - spring 2005 year.

For more information, contact Don Geivet or Barbara, Tejon Ranch Company, P.O. Box 1000, Lebec, CA 93243, or call (661) 663-4208 or (661) 663-4209. Email Barbara at bbb@frazmtn.com.
