I have been out about a dozen times or so this season. Here is what i have turned up in about 30 hours or so of lookin. Nothing real big YET. They are still out there though. Got some honey holes up north that are still covered with fresh snow.
Nice start to the season Shed Head, thanks for getting the pics up. I've tromped most of my spots down here already with moderate success, trying to get up north to our hunting grounds within the next couple weekends. Sounds like there is still better than 1/2 foot of snow up in Sawyer County, probably in the n/e too. Good luck on your trips north.
I see the antlers chewed heavilly By Squirels Im guessing for the Calcium... I have seen alot of Bones in the woods from deer, But there never chewed, they contain calcium as well, why is it the horns get chewed and not the bones. or do they both?
Thats a shame there chewing them before you can find them. But your finding old sheds, Those look like they really would blend in. Good eyes.
I have wondered that same thing. I have found plenty of critter skulls and bones that have been chewed some, but not nearly to the degree that sheds get chewed. Maybe antlers are not quite as hard, or maybe the make up of antlers is slightly different than internal bone, making the calcium and or minerals easier to process. Anyone have anything more scientific to add or any other theories?
