122 Elk Killed During This Month's Season

WLUC TV

Hunters killed 122 elk during this month's elk season, nearly meeting Michigan's Department Of Natural Resources goals and eliminating the need for a second season.

State officials say hunters killed 36 bull elk from December, tenth to Tuesday. That's two shy of the goal.

State wildlife managers maintain the winter herd around 800 to 900 elk in a four-county range.

To meet that goal, hunters are selected each year through a statewide lottery open only to Michigan's residents.

Nearly 38-thousand hunters applied for 150 permits this year.

Just off the top of my head I would say at least 3500-4000 tule elk then another 1000 Rocky mt. and Roosevelt maybe more, i'll bet we don't harvest 5% of the elk in Ca. just shows you how far out of touch DFG is with game management.
