2-SHOT GOOSE HUNT AND G&F SPONSOR WATERFOWL HUNTING SKILLS WORKSHOP DEC. 13

12/6/02
TORRINGTON -- Torrington’s 2-Shot Goose Hunt Association works to enhance waterfowl habitat and also helps put a more effective, responsible and ethical person hunting in that habitat.
As part of the 2-Shot’s annual event showcasing Goshen County, the association sponsors a “Waterfowl Hunting Skills and Responsibility Workshop” for the participants and any other hunters who’d like to improve their skills. The workshop will be held Dec. 13, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the Goshen County Sportsman’s Club four miles west of U.S. 85 on Wyoming Highway 154.
The workshop is conducted by Game and Fish Department employees trained by Tom Roster, who is widely considered the continent’s foremost expert on shooting nontoxic shot.
Participants will learn insightful ways of range estimation, including “sub-tending,” the technique of using your shotgun muzzle to estimate the distance of ducks and geese. Instructors will also help hunters pattern their shotguns to determine the most effective choke and load for their firearm.
“As the 2-Shot works to improve waterfowl hunting, we are also committed to creating a more responsible, ethical hunter,” said 2-shot representative Joe Guth.
Workshop participants should bring the shotgun and shells they use for waterfowl hunting. Rounds of trap and skeet can also be purchased at the club.
With the restriction of two shells per hunter, the 40 teams of two hunters in the 2-Shot hunt compete to see who can bag the most geese.
With the proceeds of the event, the 2-Shot has remodeled blinds on the G&F Bump Sullivan hunting area, purchased aerators to improve conditions for wintering geese at Springer and Table Mountain habitat areas and annually prepares nesting structures for returning geese. The organization also pays the fee for every hunter education student in Goshen, Niobrara and Platte counties and awards two $1,000 scholarships annually to Eastern Wyoming Community College.
For more information about the workshop, contact the G&F’s Jake Hohl at (800) 842-1934. In Cheyenne or outside Wyoming call (307) 777-4600.
