2003 Camp Roberts Hunting season Set

We had the fish and game meeting thurs with the base , and the hunt season is on.
I know a lot of you have not hunted camp roberts, so here's some info to help you out.Camp Roberts has 7 hunt area's 1,2,3,4,5,6,and 7.As per the CR game harvest report for 2002 season most hogs are shot in area 7.This is a shotgun, blackpowder, archery only area along the river.Camp Roberts Hunt Map Area 4 along the river is also a good hog producing area, this is a rifle area. Area 6 along hwy101 at the north end of this area by the river, also has good numbers of hogs, but this is also a shotgun,blackpowder,and archery area. If you can tell by now,water is the key to getting a hog at Camp Bob. The hogs in area 7 move out of the impact area in the evening and feed in the river bed , then go back into the impact area as daylight comes. The key to harvesting a hog in this area is to cut them off be before they get back to the impact area, by walking the edge of Tower Rd. at daybreak above the river. I think if you keep to the river at camp roberts you will have a great hunt and time.

When does it start and what days can you hunt?

Yotegetter, It's the 26th and 27th(whatever the weekend dates are). I've never been but will be there this time. As far as I know the gates open at 6:00a.m. If you'll look in this forum there are a few post by Boartracks that has the forms needed and the hours the base allows you on.

There will be four of us there that weekend. Hope it is not too crowded. We are just looking for some meat and I would really like my wife to get one so I can keep her motivated towards hunting. I might even bring my bow so if it is that good of an area, I can stick one too.

Lets try to all hook up and have a beer or something after dark so we can put some faces to some names. I'll have a Silver Bullet for everyone if you decide to. It will be myself, Mnfshrman and Renegade. My wife does not have a name yet. I will be up there Friday evening doing a little scouting hopefully. We are all in the Navy so we can get on base ahead of time I would imagine if it is like any other base. Gives us a shout Boar tracks if you want to hook up on that Friday.

Right now it is looking good to get up there but you never know with this job. i hope to be up that way by 1500-1600 and hook up with Boar Tracks and everyone else that wants to meet up.
