I just picked up a brand new Tikka T3 SS in 270 for an amazing $494 new. Any way, I am new to the 270 and I am looking for some suggestions as to what non-lead ammo you guys use on hogs.

Thanks in advance for any info.

We shoot the Barnes TSX and MRX out of our .270's in 130 grain. We like them and don't have any of the mythical issues people seem to complain about with them. Pigs, deer.... no problemo!

You know; shoot right through 'em and no visible result etc. If you hit 'em where the machinery is; down they go. None of us in our circle shoot anything but the Barnes due to the fact that you give up so much in velocity using the E-Tips. The Nosler works just fine; but you have to go with what the rifle wants. It will probably tell you right quick which one it prefers--usually the most expensive! LOL

My .300winmag hates TSX ammo...lousy groupings. My match load FMJs are tack drivers. No e-tip cartridges made for the .300WM, just ABs. I don't handload. sigh

Mythical issues?

Just the issues of people blaming the bullet for lost animals, no penetration, or too much penetration, or no mushrooming of the bullet, etc. Each gun will obviously shoot different with different bullets, but that doesn't mean the bullet is bad.

I always have to take shots at the issue of Barnes copper bullets are bad. hehe

I shoot barnes, but my accuracy didn't tighten up until I loaded my own. COAL, powder charge, even primer brand can make a difference. With factory loaded rounds, I could hit the pie plate at 100, with my handloads I can hit a quarter.

mine and my wifes 7mm08 loves the Fed premium with TSX ammo. They are both tack drivers with it. But as others have said you have to find what your rifle likes.
We also have never had a problem knocking any animal down with them , from pigs and black bear to springbuck through blue wildebeest they fall fast.

Etip and barnes are pretty much the two options that i know of. Ive heard lots of good things from the Etips on being animal stoppers

Cheaper Than Dirt Winchester 95/5 Lead-Free 130gr. $26.61, Also Hornaday GMX .130gr $26.?? My .270 shot both real well and at those prices its easier to swallow the cost.
