270 WIN for hogs?

I have a Browning BAR in 270 win and am wondering if 130 grainers will do at 200yrds or less. or if maybe i should move up to higher grain ones. I was planning on sighting in using 130s but didnt know if they had enough JUICE to lay a pig down if I do my part, meaning a reasonable hit in the vitals area.

Maybe some tips on slug construction too like, partitions, accubond, solid copper etc.
I have another question regarding the BAR in the medium bore forum.

The .270 is probably one of the most popular guns in the area I hunt. THey will definately do the job on pigs. As I'm sure you've heard before, it's all about shot placement. Now granted pigs are TUFF, but if you double lung a pig with 130 grains from a 270 they won't go further than 40 yards

, this is 1st hand experience.

Depending on how far you plan on shooting, comfortable range (under 300 for me), there isn't a huge difference in bullet drop when shooting the .270 with 130s, 140s, or 150s.

Hope this helps, and remeber on pigs if you have it take the head shot!

I have used Federal Premium High Energy 140 gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claws with great results. I have had very poor results with Nossler ballistic Tips, the pigs went quite a ways and I almost didn't find my big boar.

If you like a bullet with a polymer tip (prevents mushrooming in a magazine and better ballistic coeficient than a soft point) but don't like the explosive energy dump from the Nosler ballistic tips, try the Nosler Accubond... these bullets have a polymer tip, but a thicker jacket than than the regular "ballistic tip" Noslers, meant to promote more controlled expansion.

Future Mrs. Backcountry will be shooting either the Nosler Accubonds or the Barnes TSX in 7mm-08 (140 grains) when she goes pig hunting in a week and a half. I haven't sighted in the rifle yet so I haven't decided which round to have her use on the pigs. We'll see what the Tikka T3 Light likes best and go with that... both bullets have outstanding track records on medium sized game.
