2X doubler

Im looking at getting a pair of 10x42 EL's and adding the 2x doubler to bring em in closer. Does anyone use one of these? Can it take the place of a spotting scope? In this day and age of technology with so many different types of gear I need to try and combine some equipment instead of having one of everything, plus to cut down on packing weight...Any pros or cons?

I have a doubler for my swarovski 8x56 and I like it. It makes it a 16x56 and so it still has alot of light gathering capabilities.
Your 10x 42's will become 20x42 and so they won't be gathering much light and won't be as sharp as what you're used to seeing. Also the smaller field of view gives it the optical illusion of seeing the images smaller than 10x
If you want to buy one you could probably get a used one for cheap because alot guys buy them and then don't like it.

Thanks for the input Glass Eye! Do you notice much difference between the 8x and 10x? I have used 10x my whole life and don't really want to give up the extra 2x but like the idea of moving up to the 56 compared to the 42 obj.

I thought this purchase over long and hard, it's mucho $$$$
Many hunters out here in the southwest use the 15x56 but I figured I could get that from a doubler on the 8x56 and without the doubler I get maximum light gathering. Those golden moments of game movement are mostly at low light.
I don't think that there's too much difference between the 8x and 10 x

I have the 42 EL's and was told the Doubler won't do much for it...Not worth the money!
