3 hurt as deer runs through care center

July 26, 2002

A deer crashed through a window at an assisted-living center near Bel Air yesterday, where it kicked a nurse and scratched an elderly resident before running out an open door, according to fire officials and a spokeswoman for the facility.
The deer jumped through a dining room window about noon at Rock Spring Village on Colgate Drive north of Bel Air, said Patricia Ruddle, community relations director for the facility.

One resident was scratched on the leg when the deer jumped over her, Ruddle said. The deer, described as an adult male about 5 feet high, also kicked a nurse in the back as it ran the length of the one-story building, Ruddle said. She said the deer escaped through double doors an employee had opened at the end of a hallway.

Ruddle said the nurse, the resident and another elderly resident who suffered heart palpitations were treated at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air and released. She declined to identify the injured.
