If you don't like yuppies don't go in SKI Season--I couldn't find anything to eat there--all they had was Lattes, croissants, Pasta salads(no macaroni) & some Tofu Burgers.

Jackass hole isn't a part of WY. We gave that one to the yuppies in 2000.

I remember growing up we always had snow the first week of Oct. And not just snow, the snow that stays the whole winter. Now we'll lucky if we get snow in Nov.

if you're in Jackson eat at Bubba's! Its a pretty good place and its BYOB. So you don't have to pay 3.50 for a beer.

Thanks--and you sound like you'd be fun to hunt with--Jaskass hole sounds like what Calif. folk tried to make all of AK after Pipeline and Exon Valdez.

Two years ago I took a Big Nm 6x6 shooting 180 gr Core-Lokt Ultra Bonded and the bull never moved from the spot he stood. Distance was 60 yards and I broke both shoulders. It's performance was as good as it gets. That being said I would use no less than the 165 up to the 200gr. this year i'll use my custom swede with Laupa 155gr mega for my Elk and not feel I need a larger caliber. I do agree with use of the heaviest bullet your caliber can handle for these animals. Jess

I like the idea of the Swede on Elk. Well placed shot with a 156 gn round nose Alaska and I bet he's going down. Penetration on that round has gotta be into next week. Haven't used any of those yet, but I'm starting to think about it.....

You've gotta love the Swede. I think I'll try some of these:

I used 30-06 Federal Premium 180 Barnes TSX a few years ago on an elk in Colorado and it worked great. At 200 yards the bullet enterred behind the front shoulder and crushed the far side quartering away shoulder before exiting. These are also the most accurate bullets out of both my Browning '06 and Rem 300WM. It's all I use any more.

I drew a wyoming elk tag in Grizzly Country and will be archery hunting not all that far from Cody. I do think it's not a problem in Wyo to pack a side arm while hunting archery but I'll have to look into it. I'd like to have at least my .357 Mag with me even though it's not all that adequet for bear unless I basically stuck the barrel in its mouth....although for noise making purposes it is pretty effective especially if I had to wiz a boolet past ones ear.

I read where it is suggested you file off the front sight on handguns to be used on Grizz. That way it doesn't hurt as much when he shoves it where the sun don't shine.

True enough but I'll still take a sharp stick AND a .44 mag over just the sharp stick

winmidbrook,

You CANNOT have a pistol with you while you are archery hunting in WY. Right they are trying to pass it so you can but for 2007 you cannot have any firearm with you if you are archery hunting.

Thanks for the info YoungHunter. I'll have to see if it is like Utah where you can carry during an archery hunt if you have a CWP. I do know that Utah and Wyoming have a reciprocal CWP agreement.

"A 30-06 will handle any grizzly in the lower 48"...but not before he handles you first and then dies.

Personally I have more confidence in 200 grain trophy bonded bear claws.

Take pepper spray and bear bells, that way they can find the bear that ate you because it will spell like pepper and have bells in it's crap.

I am a bow only hunter now, but for the most part in all hunting, shoot what you are confident in, many people each year get in dicey situations cause they went up to the .338 they can't shoot worth a darn, when their .308 or .06 was a long lost friend they could shoot like a dream, happens in africa quite a bit with the guides pushing the huge rounds, if you can't shoot it well it won't hit where you want it to, and you get a .375 in the gut, vice a 180gr .06 thru the scapula.

Good luck, WY is a magical place, cept for the Starbucks clan that has taken JH over.

An 06 WILL kill any bear in NA--BUT for Kodiaks I'd take something bigger like my 416 rem-I have killed blacks( AK, USA, And Canada), browns( Admiralty Isl), and grizz(AK range) with an 06 in AK using 180 and 220 gr factory ammo.(REM) That's it- no BS nada more needs to be said.

I use a .300 Winnie with 200 grain Trophy Bonded Bear Claws and my gun loves 'em.
