Well, Ill be the first to say that Im not the best, nor would I even compare myself, I just love to get out this time of year.
Figured I keep everyone updated on my trips, both sucessful, and not, if for no other reason than some good pics

The first trip was 2/10 and too much snow made some.......fun.......hiking, about 10" of frozen made it tough, yet I knew dad or I would come across a freshy sittin' on top, but it wasnt to be. I even kicked into about 45 deer, and it had at least 5 bucks, with bloody nubs up top. Heres some pics

My pup, aka THE BONE FINDER, and some good fresh tracks!

I just had a feeling these were fresh, and thats when I came around the corner and found the 45 deer

Well, went out again today, it was sure nice to get out after 6 straight days of baseball practice.
We recieved some unwanted snow last night, and the wind was blowing, made for some shivering after I got the "hiking cold-sweats"
Right away dad, the bro-in-law, and I got on super fresh tracks, and some BIG tracks at that, got really excited, so I started following them,
020.jpg

Some dandy sized tracks
021.jpg

The really started getting into the fresh sign, and saw some deer, a couple red-knot bucks, so the freshys are laying somewhere out there, there was lots of fresh sign on the tops of the ridges
042.jpg

So I began targeting these flats, are really got into some great country
022.jpg

027.jpg

Then boom, the first flat I hit, about 3/4 mile from the car, I see the first flash of white that strikes true
017-1.jpg

018.jpg

Nothin like a lil bone on the pack, even if its a bit chalky :)
019.jpg

So I continued my way up this gulch type of canyon, only to find more and more fresh deer, and cat sign
With the wind howling, the wind would knock the snow off the junipers, creating a sounds similiar to a animal running, or a car jumping from a tree, and in the thick junipers, I almost lost it a few times!
<
Definately make sure next time I have a handgun......tons of cat sign
028.jpg

And some big buck doogie
023.jpg

Came up on this TALL sage flat, 4-5 ft tall sage, and right away I thought I had a 75" horn, looked like a big four, lets see if you can pick out what I thought was the G2 and back fork
031.jpg

.......turned out to be just a fine looking piece of sage

Continued up the canyon, and about 2 miles away from the car, found another nice 4 pt chalky left
034-1.jpg

Bone on the pack!

To finish 'er off, here a couple pieces of brush that got me excited...............

Back at it again in a totally different area. On the way we saw some nice goats, about 40 of them.
065.jpg

011.jpg

Saw some deer, only about 300 total, about 10-20 bucks with bloody knubs
062.jpg

We had a real tough time getting into the NF and once we did we couldnt go any further, way too much snow. Ended up finding a small patch that was melted, and decided to make a little hike on it. As dad was loading up his pack, I glassed this south slope......and saw some bone, literally from the car!
Dad glassing it up,

Looking back toward the rig,
deershed.jpg

And the nice little 3pt,
018-1.jpg

Headed back down the road to a spot where an elk shed is definately a possibility, and started up the ridge, and found this,
its a buck skull that shed before it was killed, pretty interesting find,
024-2.jpg

Started back across a sage flat, toward the bottom of the ridge, through a patch of junipers, and kicked out a nice fat 2 1/2yr old cow elk, and man was she hauling up the hill!
Odd she was alone as we found both alot of tracks and doogie
027-1.jpg

026.jpg

Met up with dad after seeing the cow, and as we were taling he interjects, "Hey, theres a shed right behind you!" Sometimes you can spot em 500 yards away, and then almost step on em I guess, Dads first of the year We were literally about 6 feet from it
050.jpg

Death on the desert, a nice old cow elk skull,
047.jpg

Well finally got to the top of the ridge, boy how pretty this time of year
028-1.jpg

030.jpg

Made our way back toward the rig, down a finger ridge, and I looked down the ridge my binos and BA BA BA BANG!!!!
Could it be...........yup indeed, a nice white one, and good sized at that so I holler to dad and start jogging down to the horn and as I get closer......what MORE white bone, just to the right.....
....a MATCHED SET!!!
The pics tell the story, beautiful set, score 63 1/2" and 66 3/8" gross score of 154" Mongo eye-guards!!!!
