Well like I said it always pays to scout and this time more than any other, my confidence is building. Me and My buddy Terry made the 4 1/2 hr drive and found the bulls. Good ones. Things are changing. They're bugling and starting to pre rut, 3 weeks before my hunt!! The larger bulls are now coming out an hanging with the cows. We found one group of 14 bulls, 12 are P&Y+ and at least six of those are B&C. Just awsome, we snuck in close, filmed them and snuck out without them knowing we were there. Man I wish I had my bow and the hunt was on!! I'm excited. Still going to be tough because these critters are very skittish and it's still hot, 100+. Here's a pic I captured from my video, B&C 8x8 doing the wild thing!! I don't know what the hell I'm doing yet so it isn't that clear. I'll have better pics from my camera. Ed F

Good luck on that hunt Ed. Getting that tag was a special thing. Now you get a chance at becoming a 13+ for California. Outstanding!

I wanted to tell you that I have had the opportunity to go back to Minnesota at the Pope & Young Club office and take the measurer's clinic. A special thanks to you and Jerry for the recommendations that got me in this first try. I met fellas that had been applying for up to 6 years. My first blacktail head to measure was a deer that had been killed with a rifle, in the 50's. I volunteered to measure the animal just for fun. He was non-typical and netted about 179. This buck had an extra main beam with forked brow tines on each beam. With the owner's permission I would like to take a picture and send it to you.

Congrats Dave. Now you need to apply for B&C. Believe it or not the P&Y class is much more detailed than the B&C class, B&C just covers a few more species and a few rules are different. The Hisey's are great people. That sounds like a monster blacktail, I'd love to see a pic. You gotta be lovin life up in Oregon. Ed F

Here is my Tinemeha bull from a couple of season ago no monster. We had a tough time locating bulls. (On the legal side of the road.) At the time the west side of 395 was not open to hunting. Picture quality is not that great.

Very cool pics.

Hopefully that monster doesn't get into too many fights. The antlers are on the brittle side in the Owen's Valley. I remember having located a bunch of awesome bulls when I was scouting for my cow hunt. By the time Nov rolled around, a lot of the bulls were missing tines or had busted the antlers down off at the base. There was a 7X8 that was a 0.5 X 8 the second time I saw him.

Way back when the Tinnemehaha areas wasn't a hunt, we used to kick up bulls all the time down by the lake.

Hope you get a buggin

I was out there this past weekend & found the bulls up near the bottom of the hills. This nice 9x8 was raking the bushes & bugling & chasing his cows away from the other bulls. Saw a 8x7 & 2 7x7's at about 450 yards. Cooool Stuff!!

Great pictures. One of my favorite things about living in Monterey was going down to Hunter Liggett and Camp Roberts, I always took along my rifle and signed up for the pig hunts but the best part was by far the opportunity to walk into Tule herds and experience the elk all around you. From the looks of your pictures, looks like you're going to have an awesome year!

Just heard from Ed... he shot a nice 7x7 B&C elk with his bow on Saturday morning about 30 minutes into the season. I expect we'll be seeing some pics by tonight!

Whoooooo-HOOooooo!
