OK I started a test to see how long 4 aa nimh will last running every thing.
The setup is inside ,76 F , enclosed in a tupperware container. I will take 5 pics every day with a 1 min. delay between pics. I will check trips on Brians chip to verify any false trips. If it goes over 5 days I will take a pic of my cat for pic quality. Batteries being used are Energizer ACCU nimh 1600mAh. If you can think of any thing else that can be easily check, let me know.

Start  Aug. 17 ,08:30 cdst

batt volts 5.6
reg volts  4.9
Daily pics   5
total pics    5
counter tl   5

Does any one want to make bets on how long it will last? Just send me your money and time of dead batteries. I will let you know my guess after the test. Of course this is the honor system.

Yes it has 2.5 hr refresh.
I checked the Energizer web site for some teck info .Could not find any for the type batt I have but their other nimh ma ratings say that it is good to 1 volt. My next test will be with 5 AA.  In theory 1600/2.2 = 727/24=30 days. With 5 batts you should reach 5 volts 1600ma discharge to satisfy 5v requirment of pir.

If you think that is exciting wait till I do my 5 AA nimh test. Thats right ,5 of them. But I won,t use my cam setup for this because next week I want the cam in the woods. Instead I am going to load the batts with a 2.7 K resistor or what ever is close to2.7K and see how long it takes to drain below 5 volts.  Really I should do a test to see how long  5 aa nimh runs a  low powed ms20 with 5 trips a day like a setup for an Owl PF.
Your move. Enquiring minds want to know.

4 AA nimh test

Something strange happen ,notice 5 extra counts on timer . Camera vertified those extra counts. I guess tomorrow will tell the story if any more extra counts and batteries will be at the 5 volt mark.

Bigbucks, those are 1600mah batts.

Next test, use 9 volts. That's what I use, and its a little further to the dropout voltage. I get a solid week.

Well bat I guess I better set my alarm for midnight wedsday so I can catch the 5 volt mark. Hey it won't be a bad idea to set your alarm clock too so you can be the first to know when I post the reading at 00:31.

Well today it showed about 60 pics were taken .The voltage on the batts were right at 5.06 volts and the reg. volts were 4.87. The camera fired with no problem at 5 volts. So the answer would be to make sure you stay above 5.5 volts for stable operations on your pir.( like you did not know that all ready) Camera has no problem at 5 volts, and I think Brian's chip can go to 3.5volts. Hope to put everthing back together  and into the woods next week and run everthing off a 6 volt sealed battery. I will set up by a feeder . If you use 6 AA nimh the pir should last a long time minus the self drain of nimh batteries. Don't run the dig. cam off of 6AA nihm.
