I recently built a 7mm-08 mauser and wanted to know if this is enough for hog hunting? Now, I know that if i'm 50 yds, yes but how far would be effective?
Thanks,
Mike

That's a fine round. I see no problem shooting at any pig out to 250 yds. with a good 120-140 grain bullet - Accubond, TSX, TTSX, Partition etc. depending on your area.

yes, that's a great hog gun. Bullet choice is far more important than caliber when hunting hogs. accubond, fail safe, and barnes are all good pig medicine. If you're hunting on the central coast you have to use copper (Barnes) so that will narrow your selection. If not, there are plenty of good bullets. Stay away from light jacketed bullets that expand too quickly. Good luck!

I just purchased 2 boxes of fusion 7mm-08. Is this any good?[/b]
It's not a bad bullet, but there are better. The Fusion is Federal's budget line and uses a basic bonded (jacket to core) soft point bullet. It will kill pigs if you do your part, but there is incrementally less margin for error when using this bullet as opposed to others that are available.

Like backcountry said. Not my first choice but much better than you could have done! It's similar to a bonded bullet but formed through a different process, I haven't used them but haven't heard any bad things about them either.

It'll kill um just as dead as a 375 H&H magnum. All you need to do is your part in putting the bullet where it needs to go and magic, DEAD PIG!

Load that sucker up with some TSX's and you have yourself a pig killer for sure!

I've seen one hog shot with a 7mm-08. At a shade over 250 yards, the TSX whipped through and knocked him clean over. He sprayed blood like a firehose as he tumbled down the hill.

Yeah, it's enough gun.
