Hi,
I wanted to check here to see if any of you benchrest target shooters
may have load data on the berger 180 grain vld in 7mm rem mag.
I know that it is primarily used for competition shooting, is very wind resistant and has good terminal performance.
I have a long range (300yd) plains style shooting situation with substantial cross winds and pork chops on the hoof at the other end.

You need a Berger book as none of my load books(speer, nosler, hodgdon, hornaday, lyman or NRA Loadbook) exceed 175gr bullets for the 7mm mag

Just use the data for the 175 gr. bullets, we're not talking pounds here. In a lot of books and the Barnes in particular they use the same data for their 165 and 168 gr. bullets

Thanks Guys,

I also sent them (berger) a request for information and received a note back with a recipe and also telling me that they are working on a load book which should be coming out shortly.

Billrob, have you tried that round yet? What is the recipe? Do you think that bullet could be used for deer hunting, (expansion and so forth)? Thanks

dw,
Not yet, I moved over to Barnes TSX and haven't finished them yet.
The folks at Berger were really nice and helpful and gave me the following:

180 grain vld IMR7828 min 56.5 - 2,500fps max 65.5 - 2,900fps
H1000 min 58.7 - 2,500fps max 68.4 - 2,900fps

They told me that it is used for competing and hunting but more so in competition because sometimes they won't fit in magazines due to AOL.

I'm not real familiar with the 7MM mag load data. I did see something on TV that I'd give a try though...I saw the Best of the West guys on a bear hunt in Alaska. He commented he was using 180 grain Bergers in his 7MM mag. I've called their shop before (got the # off the internet) for advice on loads for my .25-06 and they were real helpful. I'm sure they'd share what they were using. I'm not saying everything happens exactly like it's shown on TV but they showed John Burns take a black bear at over 700 yards with that load. If he's shooting that well, I'm thinking he's got a pretty good recipe. The worst you'd be out is a few minutes of your time on the phone and you may get some real good advice.
