Picture doesn't do justice. That was a massive bull. I am pretty sure they pulled that one out of 22 on Thursday

This isn't the one that was killed in the wrong zone is it? He looks really cool and heavy. Would love to see some better pictures.

No. This wasn't the one shot in TA20. I think Mikey took some pictures of this guy hanging though. Mikey, you got any pictures of this guy??

How did you all get qualified for the FHL ELK tag and how many applications have you submitted until you were pulled in the lottery?

Based on all apps submitted, what is the probability of getting pulled.

Thanks will be given.

Thanks!

I believe there are both military and public tags for this hunt. You just have to put in for it when the draw comes out like everyone else.

There are both military and civilian tags for the FHL hunts and they run concurrently. So if there are 8 civilian tags available, the military puts out 8 tags for their guys for a total of 16 hunters.

FHL is open to the public. The odds for drawing are published in the CA digest each year. Its no easier or harder than anywhere else. I talked to a guy on the NOV cow hunt that had 10 pref pts.

The military side is a bit easier. The draw odds for that aren't a matter of record (I don't think they keep records). Alot of the folks that ARE elgible for those hunts are deployed. But there's a definite priority system.

for example, Active duty #1, Retirees #5 etc, etc. all the way down to priority 15. If I had to guess, a military guy probably has a bit better chance of drawing a military tag...say hyothetically 1-in-5 vice 1-in-10. But thats a pure guess.

Overall, the state puts out 330-350 tags per year and over 20,000 folks put in for it. Just keep after it.

Elk was shot with a muzzleloader based on the story I got in the email from a friend who was with the guy. Don't know what area, email was brief on details.

I was going to give up on putting in for a tag this year but this picture has changed my mind.

Reminder, that file is for the MILITARY hunt only, those folks that fall into one of the 15 priority groups. Otherwise follow the DFG instructions in the annual digest. THe civilian hunts are concurrent with the military one, just a different application/eligibility process.
