Hello there,

In my quest for PIR elements I landed on the Kube site in Switzerland. They appear to have interesting components, particularly their KUBE Cone Optics   TR 230 and their TR156 single chip controller. There is also good info in their download area, including circuit diagrams and a paper reviewing the history of PIR technology.

get to the cone page at http://www.kube.ch/optics.htm

and to the chip at http://www.kube.ch/chip.htm

I am quite curious about their lens free cone optics …

Did any of you use their components? Any feedback welcome.

Cheers
Andre

PS: the company appears to be on hols till 12 June. Couldn’t get my homing pigeon to bring along chips from there… too bad   ! :cry-blue:

Holy COW - you found 'em!!!!!!  I bought several of the TR-230 "cone optics" a couple years back at an 'estate sale' - but the manufacturer name had been removed.  I love these parts!!  I've been looking for the manufacturer for quite some time.
These things work great - no lenses to mess with - and they allow for TINY circuitry.

The only minor down-side is that - unlike the typical Fresnel lens - they have rather widely spaced detection "zones"
Check the specs on that site and you'll see what I mean (the zones are much 'coarser' than they appear in the specs).

'Course the cost is an issue at  - Uggh! - 5US$ea plus shipping from Switzerland.

But if you want a tiny sensor with decent range (it's actually a bit more than they state) the cone optics are great!!

Never tried the controller chip - but it looks like 'over-kill' for a simple application like a trail-cam.  Maybe try LSI/CSI - they have simpler / cheaper PIR controller chips < http://www.lsicsi.com > Look in "standard products - PIR motion detectors for the 65xx controller chips.

Thanks for the link!!

Hi Brian,
I'm thinkin' about it....  Have to get several to make the shipping worthwhile.  Did you ever try out the one I sent to you??

Hey Arch,

I haven't had a chance to use it yet but I plan on it.  I have several applications for it but I haven't had a chance to put it together.

I would be interested in helping you out on the order it you do order them.

Email me and we can discuss it.
