Younghunter responded to a qustion about how how he packs out his elk sheds. He explained that he usually uses a frame pack, but before doing so he stashes them. Everyone out there has had a day or two where they have found so many sheds it has been nearly impossible to carry them all. Heres why I dont stash horns! My uncle was elk shed hunting at one of his prime spots in montana when he crested a hill and spotted two elk shed laying on top of one another with his binocs. Heart pounding he tore ass down the mountain and up the other. When he finally got to them he realized that they were not a matching set. In fact one was an old white 5 pt and one was a fresh monster 6pt. After waiting a few seconds for my dad to catch up, and taking some pics of course, he proceeded to pick them up. Not but a minute later he heard some one yelling from down in the valley. So they waited for the man to proceed up the mountain only to find that they were his sheds that he had stashed because he was not properly outfited to carry such a load (###### couldnt carry 2 sheds). Of course they had to believe the guy because what are the odds of a freshy 6pt falling on top of an old 5pt white shed. You know damn well if those had been a matching stashed set that guy might have lost his find. The moral here is always travel prepared to carry a thousand antlers if you have to. Needless to say, they both got skunked that day.
Also, do all of you out there shed hunt with binocs? I love them.
