I guess this is kind of like a shed I was out checking a group of cows and saw a tine stickiong out of one of or stalk ponds. When I tried to lift the antler it kept on coming. I cant wait until the elk start to shed I've seen a few that dwarf this one. Does any one know how I can get the antlers back to the bronze color they were before they got sun bleeched.

Great find
<

I know some of the Taxidermy supply companys sell antler stain. Don't know if it's any different than wood stain. I'm sure some one here will know.

I've heard of using wood stain. Not sure how you'd make it look natural and not like a piece of wood. Maybe stain than sponge with thinner?

great elk, it kinda has a nontypical look about it. i personally would not stain it. i like the natural look even though it is faded. none of the stained stuff ever turns out right. just my oppinion.

Wow.Great find mate.Wood stain or shooe polish will certainly colour them.Although it never looks the same,so much so that you will wish you had left them as they where.
Give them a good clean.Bleach may help to get the stain off the tips.
I have coloured a few just to see how they went, and it just looks fake.

Taylor31: Congrats, great find. If you want it to look authentic you just need to trek back out to the woods and find an appropriate pine or typical rub tree and have at it. It may take quite a while but you look like a strong guy. Just keep rubbing that rack on those pines and bark until it looks like what the elk seem to come up with . . . . . LOL LOL LOL

Make sure you set a video unit of your activities for us all to watch also . . . LOL LOL LOL

Don't use wood stain, you'll ruin them.
Do use Potassium Permanganate, it's a powder that you mix with water and brush on. It will freak you out at first because it stains it purple but then it turns to a natural brown that you can make darker with additional applications.

Killer rack T31. I'm with PaPa on the rubbing thing. Just make sure it's not during Elk season

all three subspecies of elk found in north america can be found in CA. Tule elk in the valleys (clear lake south), Rooselvelt along the north coast, and rocky mountains in the North East
