IMHO, to get away from the competition, be prepared to go high looking for pockets of cover, food and near water. I hunted mainly in the hoover wilderness near the park boundary, along the edge of the tree line. Any of the canyons running up from the foothills can be very good if there is not a lot of other hunters, in fact I have seen clients sitting in tree stands along some of the creeks. Nothing beats lots of shoe leather and scouting, to find the bucks which prefer deep canyons and remote spots. Does and dinks will be in the easy places out in the open, but so will the sheep. And if you want to drive around look out in the Bodie hills or the low lands along the Nevada border.
Good luck, it is a great area and very beautiful...
