Derelict gillnets are lost in Puget Sound each year. In 1992 NW Straits Initiative decided to take the issue on. They applied for funding and throughout the last 20 years, they salvaged around 4000 nets on the bottom of Puget Sound. The STATE does not mandate that commercial fishermen report lost nets. Therefore they continue to fish for DECADES.

This will go to your Senator, whom we want to vote for the bill that requires commercial fishermen to REPORT lost nets within a specified time period (48 hours) This bill will save hundreds of fish, crab and birds. It will have a compounding effect on spawning activities of any marine species.
