We were invited up to Bryson to try to kill some calf eating coyotes and would be allowed to pig hunt also. If last weekend sets the bar for future pig hunts then I'm probably in trouble.I'm used to sleeping in a tent or the back of my truck so a weekend of being pampered has probably ruined me. My usual partner greatwhite (patriot archery ) couldn't make it so my elk hunting partner Monte filled in. We decided to try to fill our pig tags fri evening and then concentrate on yote's.Deedy (Bryson Hesperia Resort ) dropped us off in an oat field about 5:30 pm telling us about where the pigs usually come out around 6:30 pm. we started walking and I figured we had an hour to wait so I wasn't paying attention, Deedy wasn't out of sight yet when Monte pulled me down and hissed "PIG'S ". about 80 yds below us was a herd of 12 to 15 pigs working their way across in front of us.I waited for Monte to load up and then we got into a stable position to shoot.we had decided that this was a meat hunt nothing over 200 lbs but their was a very large black boar with this group and I asked Monte if he was sure he didn't want to take him, he declined and we quickly explained to each other which pig we were going to shoot. Problem was that at the first shot all hell would break loose and we would be slinging lead at running pigs so after again verifying which pig s we were going to shoot we would shoot on the count of 3 ...2...1 two shots at almost the same instant and 2 dead pigs. Montes was 143 lbs mine 152. All of this happened in the space of 5 minutes from drop off to dead pig time what a rush ! next day we hunted hard for yotes making setups all day but no luck.we were discouraged because we had been invited to hunt yotes and we wanted to produce. sun 6:30 am we were back at it ,made 2 setups and still no yotes so we decided to shoot ground squirrels which we did until we ran out of .22 ammo(theres an amazing amount of ground squirrels there ). we watched 5 strutting toms for about 20 mins and decided to try the yotes one more time. we were driving across a field and spotted a yote trotting out about 80 yds, we bailed out of the truck and rested our rifles on the fence post's , my first shot just creased his back and he lit up the afterburner, Monte shot just behind him, he was now at about 130 yds and smoking but I thought what the hell so I put the crosshairs on his nose and touched off, I was surprised to see him fold in mid stride, the bullet entered behind his right ear and exited his left eye.( Doe's it get any better than this ! )actually it doe's when you consider the terrific cabin we stayed in with the micro/fridge stove and everything else I'm not used to while hunting. sorry for the long post but it was a fantastic weekend worth talking about, thank you Deedy for making it possible, Bill
