Advice on round for Elk

Does any one have experience with Managed recoil cartridges? How do you think these would work on Elk? What round would you suggest for a 14 year old girl who wants to hunt elk?

If you can control the range of the shot, there's no reason that .300 managed recoil round wouldn't work just fine. The biggest thing I'd be worried about is loss of energy at longer ranges (beyond 200 yards). Inside 200, the specs on that round sound perfectly adequate.

People kill elk all the time with .270s, .308s, and other rounds that are more comparable to the .300 reduced load ballistics. Just don't let her try those 300 yard shots and it should work just fine.... if they shoot well out of her rifle.

Get them to the range and make sure there's a good fit there. If not, look into other alternatives such as muzzle brakes or slightly smaller calibers. A full-bodied 30-06 with a brake shouldn't be much worse than the reduced recoil .300.

people kill elk with arrows. shot placement is more important than round. focus on that.

I let my son use the managed recoil rounds and had nothing but problems in my remington 742 semi-auto 30.06. They wouldn't fully cycle the action. And since I never got to use managed recoil rounds when I was a kid I switched him to regular rounds and he did just fine.

A 30.06 will work on Elk with none of the flinching that comes with the .300 win mag. It's all about shot placement.

I would'nt trust'em. I would use normal rounds, and get a slip on recoil pad for her rifle. Then there are no questions about penetration, distance, and much more fogiving in the shot placement area.
