If anyone has videotaped their african hunt, we'd love to see your footage on HuntingFootage.com. Please help us get the "African Hunts" category started!

Thanks,
Darren

More info: Mark Sullivan uses a 600 Nitro express double rifle. He has nerves of steel. He stands there and stops a lion, a hippo, and a lion in different hunts. The virtually drop at his feet. The cameraman also has nerves of steel. He takes the video without flinching. You can see Mark's hand opening and closing on the forearm as the animals charge. The 600 Nitro express shoots a 900 gr bullet at, as I recall, 2200 fps.

With all due respect to Mark and his many viewers you have to realize that the vast majority of those video's are staged. His video's were pulled from the SCI convention floor last year in Las Vegas for being unsportsman-like. They were actually banned by the SCI management for being in poor taste during the biggest hunting show in the world!!

If you pay close attention to what is going on in the videos the animals are known to be in the area and wounded. There are shots fired from other guns out of the video view. One in particular was with a Hippo with Marks gun missing the hippo completely on the first shot and instantly another shot folds up the big bull. It was difficult to say if the client or another PH bystander was the shooter. Marks second shot hits the bull but he is going down already.

Mark is the video equal to Capstick's books. Enjoy them for the entertainment value but don't believe everything you see or read in them! I know a dozen PH's in Africa whom I work with each Season. Our Experience varies from My 11 years to some of the guys who have been in the business over 20. One in particular has worked over 40 lion hunts, and too many buffalo hunts to count. He put it perfectly during a typical Sullivan conversation with clients. That guy has been charged more times then all of us put together and he always makes the pefect killing shot. One buffalo charge in particular was with a badly wounded bull which could hardly walk yet made a final lunge towards Mark after he deliberately taunts it to get back up for the killing shot!

It's amazing what a good video and editing guy can do with enough game to make plenty of footage. Now the up side to Mark is that he generates so much great game footage and is a good personality for the show. I like to watch the video's just as I like to read capstick. However I don't confuse them with factual 100% realistic events.

Thanks for the links, however, we are looking for non-copyrighted material that the hunter himself videotaped.

How can you stage a buffalo charge? Also, as I recall the vidoes were covered with paper...not very well I might ad. And yes SCI, in my opinion has gone to far, just a few aisles away was the same type of video that Mark had on his screens...

I don't know why SCI has singled out Mark Sullivan, but if continues I WILL NOT RENEW my membership, the entry fee for the SCI show is $100.00 per person as you know, I'm not going to pay that kind of money to have the show censored because of some graphic videos, SCI should be made aware of this, if the videos make the SCI powers that be ill...then maybe they need to attend some kind of needle point show!!!

Thanks

We'll, if you can't get the video from your camera to your computer, then you'd have to make a copy (DVD or VHS) and mail it to me. However, if you can get it on your computer and encoded to say WMV (Windows Media Video - using the free download Windows Media Encoder), then you could upload it to HuntingFootage.com using the upload program within the site.
