Aging bass anglers finish first through third in U.S. Open.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Mike Folkestad, a 60-year-old from of Yorba Linda returned to his glory days as a professional bass angler when he topped a field of 312 anglers at the WON BASS Miller High Life U.S. Open Bass Tournament that concluded last Wednesday at Lake Mead. Folkestad also won this event 16 years ago in 1985. He was the best of three aged anglers who beat a largely younger field in the three-day fishing event. Folkestad caught five-fish limits each day for a total weight of 29.81 pounds, and he reported catching fish on Risto Raps, Bass Poison plastic worms and spinnerbaits in the gin-clear waters of the huge desert lake.

For his victory, Folkestad won $50,000 in cash plus a fully equipped bass boat and truck to pull the rig. The total value of the win was near $115,000. Second place and $20,000 in cash went to Bob Simmons, 56, of Mission Viejo, with 28.75 pounds, while Las Vegas pro Pat Donoho, who is 62 and won the U.S. Open title in 1993, placed third with 28.31 pounds and won $15,000. All three of the top pros are veteran tournament anglers of more than 20 years, and each made note at the awards ceremonies that the "old guys" can still catch fish and they definitely are not "over the hill." For more information and tournament results, see the Internet at http://www.wonbass.com or contact WON BASS, 3197E Airport Loop Drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626 or call (714) 546-4370, ext. 38.

Just goes to show - us old dudes may not be able to cast as fast as you young dudes but we can still catch a fish or two once in a while.:toast-yellow:

Thanks for posting this Jesse. Us old dudes need a pick-me-up every now and then to keep us going.:smile-yellow:
