Nice bull! Definitely not your ideal "recovery" situation. I'd love to hear how you managed to get him out.. Unless you had access to quads or horses, I am amazed you got him out in one piece...Nice pics.
It was pretty hard winching job with two quads to get him out the winches started getting hot we had to change positions with the quads a few times to. You can see by the picture the strap and winch cables are right in the ground
We have been hunting this bull for the past five years they are a creature of habit he would return to the same area and feed in November maybe twice in the month then we would go and chase him. We gave him the nick name of Ben Johnson because ran like the dickens and we were sure he was on drugs the way he would go. We are sure going to miss the adventures that he would take us on and some of the unbelieveable things this elk would do.
Sounds like a "nightmare" with a good start, bad middle and great ending!!!! Beautiful animal, and kudos to you guys for giving it your all to make sure that he was pulled out and enjoyed. You are truly dedicated hunters!!!
I am planning a trip out west to CO next fall for an early archery hunt, I dearly hope I am not placed in the same or similar predicament as you were!!!!
But I'd rather play that game than the empty tag game, that's for sure.
