Ricedookie (helluva handle), welcome to JHO!

Public land hunting for hogs is probably about the toughest kind of hunting, at least in CA. They're smart, they educate fast, and they move a lot. They also get a ton of pressure, especially in the areas you mentioned, so it's pretty rare just to see one... much less actually shoot one.

If you're new to hog hunting, and want to stick to public land, your weekend experience is something you'll want to get used to. It's great fun, and some cool country... but you're not gonna see wild hogs crossing every ridge or thicket. I'd go so far as to say that most hunters never even see a hog on huntable public land...much less actually kill one.

That said, the only way to succeed is to keep getting out there and trying. Keep at it, and good luck!

I have to agree with Speck, I've been all over Condon Peak, Goat Mountain and Clear Creek area all the little piggies hang out on private land. It is some beautiful country though, and if you just want to get out and do some scouting that's a nice place for it, and who knows you just might luck out. By the by there are quail up there and they're not quite as mean as a pig if you wing em. Happy huntin'
