Shot a Sow on Friday with my bow on Wilderness Unlimited Property. This particular ranch is walking only and I left camp at 4am. During my hike in at about 5am I ran into a pig in the dark. It looked like a lone boar in my Binocs. He was only feeding about 40 yards away. I stayed there for a while but eventually I think he knew something was up and wondered down into the bottom of a draw. I decided to let this pig go on it's way and get to where I wanted to be. I sprinted most of the rest of the way because light was coming fast. At about 5;40 I got to my glassing position, but no glassing was needed. I immediatley spotted a pig 180 yards out in front of me. I checked the wind and it was right in my face s I wasted no time. I dropped down the hill a little an headed right at him making sure I did not move whe nshe hd her head up. By 6am I had moved to within 50 yards. I started noticing that there wer other pigs around in the tall grass. one in particular had my attention as it was a nice spotted pig. I moved a little closer and at 30 yards it became decision time. Do I wait for the spotted pig to turn or do I let fly on the original big still standin broadside kicking up a dust storm as it roots around. Myaptience was wearing thin and I focused on the redish one I had broadside. I drew stood up and place the 30 yard pin right behind the leg. The flight was perfect and she raced downthe hill with 15 other pigs followed by a couple of 2 pounders that must have been hiding in the tall grass. I dropped my pack where I shot and went to look for blood and my arrow but i found nothing. I walked down to where I last saw the pig go and immediatley found lots of blood. I marked the blood and went back up the hill to fnd my arrow. No luck so I went to get my pack. I could not find it anywhere. The grass was 2 to 3 foot tall. About 30 minutes later I found the trail I sneaked inon and found my back pack. I got back on te blood trail and had my head down looking for blood when no more than andother 20 feet away there she layed. A nice 180 lb pig. I ended up skinning this pig out up on the hill and packing te mat te 2 miles back to camp. Arrow was released at 6:14am and I was in camp drinking beer at 11:15am.

Nice one, congrats on gettin into range and sealing the deal. Could you briefly explain how you got the rib meat, like where and with what did you cut? It looks like the backstrap is still attached?

Nice hog, that pack looked way to heavy. Hope you did't brake your back Lol. Congrats on taking a hog with your bow. There is not much harder presuite than hunting with a bow.

Thanks Everyone.

BigBadBoar I carry a pack saw that I cut very carefully down the middle of the spine with. It's similar to the Outdoor Edge Griz-Saw. I like my chops to still have the bone in, but with the size of this pig and the fact that I had to pack it out I was very tempted to debone the backstrap and just haul the ribs but I manged. Another good option is to carry a small hatchet. You can often times take a hatchet and use it like a wedge for spliting wood. It will often crack the bone right down the middle.

Manny_Silva this pig was from Sonoma County. I carry Quarter bags in my pack when I am going into county that I know I may not be able to just haul the whole animal out. I make sure they are very thin because the idea is to keep the bugs an dirt off but keep the meat cool. I belive these game bags are Alaska Game Bags.

I've got two tags that expire next month and gotta find me a decent location to hunt. My experience with public lands has been a bit frustrating. Nice job on that Buh Dee Buh Dee.
