One of our local boys got this guy while deer hunting.
I'll try to copy Josh's own words here:
"Last night I was sitting in a ground blind bow hunting deer. After seeing only a few does, all of which looked nervous about something, about 15 minutes to dark a big spotty pig walked out into the field about 450 yards from me. I set up the video camera on the hog and took off after it. The wind was in my favor and the light was failing so I decided to walk through the open field right to where I thought the pig was going. Sure enough it worked its way right towards me, and I towards him. 100, 90, 60, 40 yards. By this time it was almost to the end of shooting light. I positioned myself to the side rear of the hog and ranged him again, 15 yards! By this time I was sure the pig was a boar, as it had every indication of one, but I was looking hard at it's rear end looking for a catchers mitt just to be sure. Once I was sure it was a boar, I took careful aim, a good quartering away shot and fired an arrow. The hog gave a quick grunt and was off to the races. It ran through the bean field and into the brush. By the time I started looking for him it was full dark. Not having any luck looking for the pig, nor wanting to push him further into the brush if he was still alive, I backed out. My friend Alan and I came back this morning and it didn't take us long to find the blood trail. It had sprayed blood all over the beans for about 100 yards as he ran out of the field. Then it crossed the brush and fence line and onto a dirt road where he sprayed blood for another 100 yards down the road, an easy trail to follow. He died, thankfully about 10 yards from a 30 ft deep ravine and only about 10 yards off the road. It turned out to be a 188 lbs boar, the biggest pig I've ever seen, much less killed! He'll make a fine addition to our home decor.
Good thing I didn't know how big he was when I was less than 45ft from him, otherwise I may have been a little nervous. Unfortunately the video camera didn't catch the action. I did get a little footage of him on the hoof though. I hope my elk hunt goes this good!"
n.b. the hog was shot with a Gold Tip XT and a Rage 2-blade. It was truly a sight to see with all of the blood everywhere. It literally looked like somebody was pouring red paint on everything. He probably lived 30 seconds. Very cool. Oh yeah: it was THE NASTIEST SMELLING HOG I'VE EVER BEEN AROUND!!!! He was out all night and inflated like a very repugnant balloon and gave Josh a face full of pig farts several times. Josh said that if it had been his first hog he'd have hurled. As it was he had to take a break and swallow his breakfast a few times. Being the supportive and caring friend that I am, I made puking noises and stood well up-wind.:rotflmao:
