The way I understand the FHL regs, firearms allowed on base are restricted to the one's conforming to the hunting regs. Just my 2c of course. 'Nuff said.

FHL does not prohibit sidearms. You just cannot hunt with them if the barrel is less than 6 inches. I figure, (before my 45ACP was lost) that I can buy a 6-inch barrel and I'm good to go.[/b]

Hi Beastslayer,

I'd asked one of the girls who works down there and she advised against bringing a sidearm that didn't have a 6 inch barrel. She didn't seem sure of the point if it wasn't my primary hunting weapon though. To be clear, have you had a less than 6 inch barrel sidearm down there without problem?

Oh, oh. Now I'm not sure. But definitely, I had my non-reg compliant 45 ACP when I was there. The girl (name scapes me now but she was Rannie's former co-worker) says it was ok -- just not for hunting. The girl might have already left since she told me that was her final week that weekend as they have not gotten the contract renewal. Well, in this case. My advice will be to have a 6 inch barrel pistol or revolver just to be sure and not give anyone reason to bust you on technicality.

I think it was back in early '90's when I had to challenge this not so intelligent MP(then) who told me that my hand gun has 5 & 3/4" barrel when he measured with a tape. I could't believe my eyes when he pulled out a measuring tape out of his patrol car. Most people can tell from 4" to a 6" barrel, no? Not this guy. Anyhow, I had to give him a five minute lecture that he needs to consider that portion of the barrel in the frame, then he became quite. I think it's written somewhere in the FHL hunting reg. that all pistols have to have a berrel length of 6" or better.

Whew! I was lucky then that I did not bump into an MP.

Now we know. We cannot even carry a sidearm with a barrel shorter than 6 inches even if we don't intend to use it for hunting.
