It's bone dry and all the sign I saw last weekend was at least two weeks old. Need rain bad. I'll be up there on MLK day anyway for a good hike. Can't get them from the couch at home.

All the pig info on Sonoma is great, but just curious, hows the fishing?

Compared to last year it seems sightings and sign and much more scarce. There's pigs there of course but the folks I know aren't seeing much in terms of pigs or really fresh sign.

I'm heading up tomarrow, the pigs should be moving with the cold snap,or simply piled on top of each other in bedding areas.
I'll let you know what happens.
Rain was late last year and most likly the same this year. The hunting was at it's best for me after a big storm hit.
Oh,and by the way,I believe it rained a bit yesterday in Cloverdale.

I hunt private property close by. The mast is as dry as it is in August, and the usual immense amount of sign is gone. The hogs are very sparse. I believe it's due to the low acorn crop. The last two trips I've made I didn't see a single hog, very unusual. The cold snap didn't help. I was out all day, you'd think they'd come out in the sun to warm up...nada. I hope things change soon

That's a bummer Mike. Is the acorn crop bad all over the central coast? I thought I heard somewhere (on some thread), about tons of acorns this year. Maybe I am remembering it wrong. I did recall not seeing that many while hunting Sonoma earlier in the year. We need some rain and those bulbs in the meadows growing back up. I know they like them!!!

On the bright side, you'll meet lots of other hunters!

My last trip about 2 weeks ago was pretty uneventful. Saw a few fresh-ish tracks, but nothing really to get too excited over. Some rain might stir things up a little. On the other hand, you might just be the lucky one who bags one when no one else can.

Like Bodega, I've never got one from the couch either. Although I did shoot an elephant in my pajamas one time. How he got into my pajamas I'll never know! (sorry)

I went back to one of the post that ranger Joel had done in regards to the 2006-2007 Lake sonoma Season I think it was post 34 he mention the the crops was lighter then usual. But he still saw alot of hogs out and about while doing some field work.

I saw hogs on the first four trips this season but none the last two weekends. There's a ton of old sign - just look at the campground off of Rockpile. Now there's nothing fresh. Where did they go, where did they go...

F_ _ _ING,COLD,CRUNCHY,NOISY,
My buddy blew up one lone boar and didn't have a chance. All the dear and cows were way up high out of the frost line.
This was the first hunt at Sonoma that I didn't break a sweat.17 dgrs. in the parking lot and had to be 5 dgrs.on the boat ride out.
Never a waste of time.Found some new bedding areas with somewhat fresh sign+I need the exercise anyway.
I think I'll wait till the next good rain (or should I say snow)
