Hey my name is Patrick and I am from North County San Diego. I am wanting to plan a hog hunt before I go back to school in the fall. Probably early August. I am 17 years old and have been around hunting ever since I was a little boy. Moving to Calfornia from Upstate New York was tough, I found it hard to not be able to go shooting in my back yard anymore. I have never been on a pig hunt nor do I know how. I have an idea from reading peopls posts, but I was wondering if anybody from San Diego or Riverside would like to meet me and see if I could accompany them for a hunt?

Thanks
Pat

Welcome to JHO Greatwhite. Great place. There are quite a few guys from so cal on here. I'm sure someone will chime in and offer. I live about 6 hours North of you. How far are you willing to travel? Deer hunting is here now so I'll have to put the hogs on the back burner for now.

Welcome to the forum!!!!

I'm probably a little too far of a drive for you to come this way. Are you an archery hunter? In a few months if your interested we can meat half way or so and try one of the many archery places for hogs, I'm going on one in livermore CA sometime after my deer season and theres also one near LA I wanna hit maybe not till spring time just depends on how busy work is.

As for when deer season starts. Some of the seasons start this saturday in CA and the last ones are sometime in Nov I believe. I normally hunt in august archery, and oct rifle. This year I'm trying a lot of out of state hunting so that'll be a change. I'll find myself in the woods most of Nov after that I'd be open to hooking up and trying some hogs.

GreatWhite,

Since you've been around hunting all your life, you know how people get near Deer season...Scouting, working up loads, hiding new rifles from significant others, etc. can chew up some time. Archery season is about now, and rifle season starts in six weeks in A-zone.

Not to mention the high heat of the summer can be a tough hunt for hogs..

So, hang out, talk story, ask questions...And chances are you'll get lucky, but be patient.

So in the meantime...Are you hunting deer this season? Are you in Kolluge yet? When did you move out here, and are you a military brat?

Welcome Brother,

It is a holiday weekend- alot of the experienced hunters are not here, and the die hards that are lucky to have vacation are doing what Ranco said. I am sure you will get a email from someone

Thanks everybody, no I moved out here 4 years ago with my family because my dad was transferred for his job to manager out here. I am a senior in high school and play football. Fall deer season is very difficult for me
<
because of football in Southern California is sorta big. Our team is shooting for CIF champs in Division 2 ball for San Diego. So I have been training for a while and when the season starts that is all I have time for. Once I graduate I hope to go with my girlfriends dad on our dream elk hunt. I am just looking around to make some new friends that I can go out on the weekends or whenever and do one of America's best past time; hunting. I am also avidly envolved in the fitness world, and am trying to make it as a professional body-builder/personal fitness trainer. I am thinking about going to firefighter academy also. Because of the 4 on 3 off type ratio I will be able to train and take time off for hunting.

Thats a little about me, and their is plenty more to go around!

greatwhite,

finish high school and consider joining the Navy (active or reserve). As a military man (of any military service) you can hunt year-round most-every-day on-base at Vandenberg Air Force Base up north of Santa Barbara.
Fort Hunter Liggett is a longer drive and only open for hunting at various times throughout the year but VAFB is year-round hunting.
One of the bennies of being in uniform and serving your country.

Cheers,

Carl
retired Navy Seabee

p.s. firefighter is a great career, my dad was LA City Fire for 30 years and enjoyed every day of it.
