Anybody going guided or dogging soon?

Hey guys,

Anybody going out in the next month or so on a high-percentage hunt? Here's the deal.

I have a couple of these new knives from Sheffield Knives. They're folders, but instead of a regular blade they utilize a Utility Knife blade. I need to write up a review on them, but I don't have any hunts planned where I have decent odds of a kill. Can't try out a skinning knife if you don't have anything to skin, can ya?

I'd like to send one out to a couple of folks who are going on a hunt with a high likelihood of success (guided, dogs, etc.). If you think you fit the criteria, shoot me an email and let's discuss. I'd love to be able to send them out to anyone who's interested, but I only received a couple and really need to get them to somone who will use it in the next month or two.

I bought a knockoff of what you're talking about from Home Depot awhile back (I think it's a "Wolf" brand tool). It sat in a tool box in my truck for awhile until I was out hunting and I dulled my skinning knife. I was in a pinch and I decided to use that thing. I'll never go back to a regular knife again. When the blade dulls, just toss it and get a new one. No need to stand around sharpening a knife (which I'm not very good at anyway). I still carry a knife with a rounded tip to unzip them, but I always use the utility knife for skinning.

When I saw them at the SHOT Show last year, the first thing I thought of was skinning hogs. The manufacturer contacted me a couple of weeks ago and wanted to know if I'd give some a field test... and me, being quite in favor of free stuff, said, "sure!"

I'm certain they'll do a great job, although the traditionalist side of me wants to scoff at them.

I haven't used the Sheffield brand, mine's a HD rand like Hogskin's, but the things are awesome. It's all I use now for skinning heads before I feed them to the bugs.

Are we talking about these type of knives? I've never used a box cutter type knife for field dressing, but I like to use them for skinning pigs. They work great for cutting the hide into long strips. Then just pull down the strips to the head and take the head off. Really makes for fast skinning.

That's it exactly, except they sent me a couple of different models.

Guys, I think I have my field-testers already, so stay tuned and we'll see how they performed.

My son and I are leaving for a Florida pig hunt Jan 10 thru 17. Bow hunting, gun hunting and dog hunting. We would be happy to test for you.

Hey, I am going on a guided hunt this weekend up in Parkfield, near Paso Robles. IF your still in the need for a tester, i will be more than happy to try it out. I also have another hunt in March at Tejon. Let me know if you still need a review.

If you haven't cut any limbs or appendages off with it, then please do send a detailed pros/cons/etc. Don't worry about making it purty, as I'll incorporate it with other comments in a full review/article.

In general, though... how'd you like it?

The idea is great and simple...no sharpening and easy to use, the design of the knife is a different issue though. For what they cost, i'd get one......but this model needs some 'tweakin'
