Anybody used the Hornady LeveRevolution .30-30...

Anybody killed a hog at over 100 yds. yet with the Hornady LeveRevolution .30-30 ammo???
I have a Marlin 336 .30-30 with a 20" barrel. Wonder if the hype is worth the extra expense of this ammo versus the 170 grn. Rem. CoreLokt I am using now. Hmmm......the hogs probably won't know the difference inside of 150 yds. Maybe at 200+ yds. The test articles in the gun magazines describe the accuracy as very good. One gun guru even got 1" plus groups at 100 yds. Are you getting those tight groups in your Marlin or Winchester 94????? Thanks in advance. 'Nuff said.

I see they're now offering it in .444 marlin..

But after thinking about it (scary), I just don't see the point. Lever actions are perfect close to moderate range rifles - light and easy to point. To me, trying to push them into the 200 yard range kinda defeats their purpose.

I've been running some through my 336 in .35 Remington and have good results. I just got it dialed in and haven't really shot many groups with it yet, but it's as accurate as anything else I've put down the barrel.
It definitely has more thump to it than a standard load. Hopefully I'll be testing it on hogs at FHL during the holidays.

Rancho, I've set up my .35 with a Leupold 4x/dot reticle. I plan to use it as a close to medium range gun that I can stretch to 200-225yds if the need arises. With the short barrel and light weight, I figure it should be about a perfect hog and bear gun.

It seems that as soon as I go past 100 yds. with my timber carbine, it turns into a garden hose.

Mebbe it's just my dim old eyes.

I have tried them in my Marlin and have noticed good accuracy.
But, have not seen the results on an animal yet.
Its a tough question.
Is it worth it???
And yes inside 100 or even 150.
Dead is dead.
But, here is the thing, if you even get a little extra accuracy, and it saves chasing an animal...
Yes I think its worth it. Couple extra bucks for fun. What the heck.

Boy, what a coincidence. I was intending to ask the same question about 325 Grn, LeveRevolation 45-70 loads in a 1895 Marlin. Seems like I have heard folks say that 325 grns may be a little light but I really don't know because I am a newbie at this whole hog hunt'n thing.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I have shot 5 hogs and 2 deer with the Leverevolution in 30 30. Much more accurate that the corelokt but the corelokt leaves a much bigger hole on exit. My last hog was shot at Tejon ranch, a 275lb pig on the run at 150 yards. Last week I shot 2 Does in Kentucky, one droped in it's tracks at 80 yards and the other ran about 20 yards after a 60 yard shot. Both had very small exit wounds.

One 140 lb Sow dropped and did the dance to that load so far. under 100yrds maybe 80 behind the shoulder just lung and opposite shoulder dropped nad didn't move an inch. Seemed to show very wide expansion and allot of stopping potential. Know a guy that shoots the .444 and loves it.

That Marlin .444 is an artillery piece. I am 57 yrs. old and my eyes are still good, but over the years I just find it incredibly helpful to use a riflescope. My scopes are always at 3X when carrying in the field. If a hog pops up in the brush at 20 yds., the 3X low power scope setting will allow fast running shots and easy laying on of the crosshair on a big game like the wild boar. If shooting above 100 yds. at big game then I can redial the scope to 9X in an instant and do some accurate long range shooting. I no longer hunt big game with iron sights as the accuracy at over 100 yds. with a riflescope is unbeatable. I want the bullet to hit the vitals everytime. God Bless.

Just sending this back to the top to see if there are any more recent experiences on critters, specifically for the 30-30 Model 94? I loaded up some 200 gr. FTX for my 35 Rem Marlin 336C and the accuracy was terrific. Now I'm helping a friend develop some loads, primarily for pig, with his 30-30 Model 94.

How was the accuracy on paper, and just as improtant how did it perform on an animal? He's not planning on shots over 100 yards, so the long range hype is not important, just the potential for a more accurate round.

Funny this topic came up. I have hunted pigs with my .270 all my life. The private property I hunt is pretty much wide open country. I just recently have been hunting the lower valley ranches (private ranches) and the ranch hand shoots a 32 Win (165 GR LeveRevolution). He SWEARS by that ammo and says they are DRT. His partner shoots the Win MDL 94 30-30 and he claims its nasty on pigs. These lower ranches I just started hunted are perfect for an iron sighted weapons. The ranches are pretty thick and you typically shoot the hogs out of there beds. Most shots are 10 yards to 60 yards.

I just went out last week and got a Win 94 in 30-30 and bought some Hornady LeveRevolution Rounds. I shot 20 rounds yesterday out of the Win 94. I shot from from 10 yards to 100 yards and I was pretty impressed with the accuracy of that round. I am headed pig hunting next weekend. If I tag out, I will post up on the results of this round.
