Was planning on doing my first JHO POR this year. Anyone else bringing their mini-hunters?

For those who don't know, Jr Hunters hunt for a little better than half-price ($250)... it's a killer deal for a great hunting experience.

Elkguys, Check the Tejon JHO POR thread at the top of this forum. Everything you need to know is there.

Remember, Jr Hunters must be at least 12 years old in CA to hunt big game.

Smoothsabo, I believe I have about five or six junior hunter requests in the group right now. I don't know how many of them will actually attend, since I haven't received any paid applications at this point.

They've priced themselves out of my budget,, to bring my wife and one of the kids I mentor is over a $1000 for 2 days, I can go to Deedys and take my wife and a youngster along and let one of them kill the first pig and still kill a pig for myself for $400 for the weekend plus hunt coyotes and squirrells for free. If you only go on 1 or 2 trips a year its worth it for the experience but when you hunt as much as I do its too expensive.

Dirtpoor, not to knock Deedy's, because it's a heck of a deal and she and Karin are great folks to hunt with... she has a ton of hogs, and you can also hunt turkeys. It's a great place and definitely worth the money... and even better is you can do a single day hunt.

But hunting for two days at Deedy's is $400 each ($200/day per person... not sure if she does a reduced price for juniors). Add in lodging for two nights, and you're spending about the same.

Granted, the lodging is a heck of a lot nicer than camping at Tejon, and you can bring non-hunters... but the price difference isn't really there at all for a comparable, two-day hunt.

$250 is such a great deal at that place. I love Tejon. My only problem is that my dad doesn't hunt, so he'd have to pay the $450(?) just to tag along (be my driver:lol bashing sign:) as a non-hunter. Which is why I'm not taking Speck up on what otherwise would be a fantastic deal.
