I've haven't hunted public land since I was a kid and recently contacted the Ranger up @ Santa Barbara District. Seems to have a good attitude towards hunters but was looking for some input.

Any help or input would be appreciated.
Thanks Guys.

I would love to find a place to hunt on public land. I was thinking of finding a place to take a flat bottem boat up river a few miles to get away from the roads. I just need to find someplace like that. I don't want to hike in that far and you can't ride ATV's , which I think is stupid, so a boat might be the ticket.

I was up there a year ago. Ranger told me he has not seen pigs in the area i was in (Upper Oso) campground. He has worked there fo 20 years. Told me to check
Figueroa mtn area. From the 154 i went up 7N07 in Los Olivios to the top of the mountain. On the way up Lots of deer and all Private property. Got to the top and it was a recreation area. NO shooting. Damn, so i was gonna drive back down Happy Canyon Rd. Saw a ranger on my way and he said he hadn't seen any pigs in a while but they are there. Unfortunatly there is only little public land surrounded by lots of private, and theres only about 3 miles of public land. I glassed down from where i was and it didn't look very good, so i backtracked and went north on the 101 to find some other spots. I still wish i would have at least drivin down the road back to the 154. If your in the area give it a shot. Most of the pigs on public land are farther north past Santa Lucia

good luck

I have seen pigs on the 154hwy, but all were on public land. I also saw a round kill of a small boar on the 101 and 154 junction about a year ago. I far as happy cyn, all the game stay on public land, and when deer season starts, its a zoo.
