A few hunters and I are trying to come up with a date to go hog hunting at Ft. Wood. Anyone interested should toss out some dates so we can start getting something together. After gun season is best for me, however I need to check when the primitave arms hunt is on post this year.
It can be as hard of a hunt as you want. It is possible to hunt from dark to dark, cover hundereds of acres and never see anything or anyone (65,000 acres). If you are interested in a lighter hunt you may want to get your permit that morning then hunt for a few hours. If you have the time/energy you may want to come down the day before to get your permit (I think it is about $7) so you can be in the woods at first light (plus get on post through the MP check stations).
There is National Forest surrounding the Post that also has hogs, plus you can come and go as you please and camp if you want. I may try to get my buddy to go and bring his kayaks so we can cover alot more ground.
