NEWS RELEASE – CA Dept. of Fish and Game, Chino Hills

July 22, 2004

Contact: Gerald P. Mulcahy, Region 6, (760) 922-4686

Application Deadline is Sept. 15 for DFG’s Eastern Sierra-Inland Deserts Region, Region 6 Game Bird Heritage Special Pheasant Hunts

The California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is reminding the public that the deadline to apply for this year’s Eastern Sierra – Inland Deserts Region Game Bird Heritage Pheasant Hunts is Sept. 15.

The DFG will be conducting 16 Special Pheasant Hunts in Imperial, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Mono counties This includes three Family Hunts, three Women’s Hunts, and 10 Junior Hunts.

These hunts should be excellent, and many consider the Robinson Farms hunts as the best in Southern California. The Game Bird Heritage Program is funded through the sales of Upland Game Bird Stamps and provides not only for these Special Hunts but also provides funding for habitat improvement projects pertaining to all species of game birds throughout California.

Geared primarily to new hunters, the DFG continues to allow newly licensed California hunters who receive hunter education certificates this year to also obtain a certificate that allows the new hunter to participate in the pheasant hunt of their choice without having to be part of the random draw. With the help of dedicated hunt partners, volunteers, and land owners, we are able to provide a safe and educational hunting opportunity.

Applications must be received at the Blythe Field Office address listed on the application no later than Sept. 15, 2004. Applications can be obtained by contacting the DFG Region 6 24-hourhotline at (760) 359-0663 or by visiting the DFG web site at http://www.dfg.ca.gov. Applications may also be picked up over the counter at the Department’s Los Alamitos office as well as the Region 6 Headquarters office in Chino Hills.

All applications must be delivered to:

Hunters can only apply once a year to the hunt of his/her choice, either as a applicant or as a guest, so plan accordingly. The Game Bird Heritage – Special Hunts Program is offering these hunts to the public at no cost. These hunts are a wonderful way to promote safe and ethical hunting to new hunters, friends and families. The Department hopes to see many new hunters take advantage of these wonderful opportunities.
