While anytime's the right time to go fishing, few months can compete with what April has to offer.

"April and May are our two biggest fishing months of the year," said Doug Nygren, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks fisheries chief. "With nice weather license sales tend to go way up. That's also when we see the majority of our fish harvest."

Nygren, an avid angler, said April is also a month when fish are easily accessible, especially three of the state's most popular species.

Warmer water brings fish from the depths for the warmer, shallower water where they'll feed and eventually spawn.

That's often when the fishing's best for bank-bound anglers.
