April Pig O Rama

[Hog slayer]

Just got back from Tejon Ranch Pig O Rama. Another successful hunt and great times. All hunters in our group got shots. Never seen so many hogs on one trip. Four of us came home with some good size hogs. Two new hunters got shots but missed. My son had a 400 yard shot at one big hog and missed unfortunately They said that there were 60 hunters on the North side but it seemed a far less. Any how, out of 60 hunters a total of 25 hogs were taken. No so good. I myself at least seen 35. I finally took my around 1300 hrs. I shot him at 40 yards in a standing positons. These hogs were feeding directly below me. They finally gave me an opportunity to shoot. I got a good eater size. She weighed in at 105 lbs. Not big by any means but should be very tasty. Only saw one other hunter during the hole trip. Another great trip to Tejon Ranch.

I just got back from the South side this weekend.
It was not as good as usual, passed up on a big boar Friday night (didn't want to pack him out of the canyon by myself). saw a few groups feeding up high right before dark.
Saturday we saw a few groups up high in the morning and then they came out thick about 30 minutes before dark.

ended up taking 2 nice meat sows Sunday morning (125 and 150). dropped them off at the butcher shop off of Taft highway at noon and was home in OC at 1445.

Great weekend with beautiful weather. just not as much morning and mid day movement as usual. sure was nice to blast ground squirrels and take a nap after eating BBQ'd boar roast sandwiches though...

I was on a bordering property with a view of Tejon. The pigs were only active late and high up on ridges that I saw. I watched hunters drive down the middle of a valley as I watched pigs above them. I think the early moon rise and set had to do with the schedule.
