I'm in the process of building an AR15 in 6.8 rem spc. The 10 round mag make the gun looks kinda awkward to me. I just want to get the look of 25-30 mag on the gun and still be legal in CA. Does any AR manufacturer make any magazine that looks like a 25 or 30 rounder but only holds 10 round? I know I can probably modify a 25-30 round mag to hold only 10 rounds, but would it still be legal? And who would sell me one so I can make the modification? When I travelled outside of CA, I tried to stop by a few places and to buy one, but somehow I am just not lucky. The clerks working the registers always ask for my ID and when I show them a CDL, they said sorry.

I've never seen a non-detachable magazine on AR. But yes I have the bullet button. And I figure it doesn't matter how long the magazine looks, as long as it holds no more than 10 rounds I should be legal.

Correct me if im wrong but in california your mag on a black gun has to be stationary. If not anyone could simply throw there 30 rnd'er in there. Thats why my ar is illegal in cali therefore it stays in TX where the comunist cant influence my mag capacity haha.

Yes anyone can slap a 30 rounder mag on any AR, but then that would make it illegal in CA if you get caught with it. From what I understand, a CA legal AR must not be full-auto, have a pistol grip with a bullet button or no pistol grip without bullet button, and no more than 10 round capacity mag.

Bullet button replaces the quick magazine release button. With the bullet button the magazine release button cannot be press with your finger to be release. Therefore the mag is consider non-detachable and a tool must be use in order to drop it. A tool could be anything small enough to poke in the bullet button hole to release the mag. I believe the bullet button manufacturer gave it the name "bullet button" because they designed it so the tip of the bullet can be use as the tool to poke the mag release to drop it.
