Arizona elk theft

My neighbor related his friends elk hunt to me. The guy hiked up a canyon in No. Arizona and shot his elk. His .338 dropped the elk in it tracks. As he approaches his trophy four other hunters approach him with rifles pointed his way and declare the elk is theirs. He didn't want a gun fight so he doesn't say much or argue, just says ok and makes quick tracks away. The funny thing is the next day he shoots a really excellent bull. I think he should have reported this but what could he prove.

I'd start with a report of being threatened by the 4 hunters to the local sheriff. Who tagged the elk first?

i'd like to hear more of this story. was there more than one shooter? what unit/where did this happen?

This absolutely should have been reported to the sheriff and AZ Game and Fish Department. They take this kind of stuff very seriously. Too bad he didn't take a picture of them as he walked away to identify the perps.
