Trying to make my plans for next year. Want to try to take my son out to get his first bull. Got a regular spot in Colorado that's good and over the counter but Colorado is a long drive. With his school and the drive time, wouldn't be able to spend more than 3 or 4 days hunting. Was checking out Arizona and they have 2 late season any elk hunts on west side of state. One is 15ab/18a, the other is 17 /18b/19b/20ac. Hunts are a month long, less than 1/2 the distance to Colorado, and unlike most of the Arizona units, they don't seem to need a ton of points to draw. We have 2 points for AZ and I think we could maybe draw.

Question is "are they worth it?" I mean since they don't require alot of points, they must suck, right??? Az handbook shows the success rate on bulls at about 20% on each unit which is pretty low. Has anybody ever done these hunts? Is there a decent chance to harvest a bull? Or should I just keep building points for something better?

There's a reason those numbers are low. Build Pts in Az and Col. Then hunt youth cow elk in Utah every year until you can draw better units in Az/Col.
