Arkansas Elk Pics

Here are a couple of pics of elk that I took last fall in North Arkansas.  The Ark Game and Fish Commission released elk here years ago, and they have finally built up to a huntable population.  This was the third year, I think, for an elk season.  They issue 20 permits per year.

The bull in the first picture was an 11x8.  He had ~32 cows with him, and was going wild chasing them around.  He was also bugling his head off.

The second pic is a group of 5 small bulls that were a little farther down the road from the big boy.  They knew that they needed to stay away from the big boy's ladies.

It's just too bad they dont' have any big elk in Arkansas... jeesh!

I live about 150 miles from that area, never been there. We would like to take a weekend trip this fall and have the same experience.  Where are  some good viewing areas?

Wow, great pictures of great elk. I've been applying for the elk permit for the last two years, not drawn yet but the preference points are adding up. Looking forward to being drawn someday.

One of these days I'm gonna get luckey and get a tag for my $10 donation.  Untill then it's out west we go.  Nice bull.  I've taken some nice pics of some 7x7s along the river but none like that one.  man what a rack.
