Couple of guys in my archery club are like that. It's pretty interesting watching a guy create a bow
string right in front of your eyes while he holds a conversation with you.

I gotta learn those skills!

I want the compound that shoot as fast as bullets. When can we start shooting the treehuggers?

Good on them for having fun, but really, are the rest of us who use " high-powered modern guns and pricey carbon-fiber bows" not "real" hunters too? Making out the rest of us aren't "real" hunters cause we don't hunt the way they do is just wankery

I had the opportunity to talk to the guy who set up and ran the archery side of Tejon for six years (some of you know who I'm talking about). He uses nothing but archery for his hunting. I asked him: "How many hogs were killed on Tejon with traditional type archery tackle? Modern materials, shafts and broadheads, but recurve or longbow?" He told me: "Probably five or six hogs shot with that kind of equipment and none were recovered". That ought to tell you something.

I sure would like to get me one of those compound bows that shoot "almost as fast as a gun"..........

To each his own. I don't really want to chase a hog through a half-mile of poison oak. I would really prefer DRT.

*I* don't believe that....and I'm sure most archers don't. I look at it like the Remington 700 vs.
Winchester Mod. 700 argument. You like what you like...so be it.

One thing I *do* want to try is an Atlatl. One of the people in my club brought one to the range
and it looked like a hoot!

...gotta git me one!

That is a bunch of crap! The majority of people go hunting for recreation and find it incredably difficult already. Now If you live in texas with a hog infestation sure take em with knives, 22's, stone tipped arrows, whatever. You can probably kill them off your back porch! For a modern hunter who has to drive a hundred miles to even go hunting and all the other money you actualy want to kill something. Ontop of that most people are not looking to make a trip to the ER. Hunting was a dangerous proposition for a cave man and they hunted with many people for success. You and your buddy with a long bow are going to end up not making it to work on monday after you wound a bore and have it turn and rip you apart on sat!

My tree hugger friends tell me I should hunt quail with a bow but come on I can barely hit one with a shotgun standing on some 60 degree slope in chest high brush!

Technology has come a long way since the buffalo jump! Why not use it? It is safer for you if your after dangerous game and more humane for the animal.

They still stone women to death in Iran like the cave men too.. Whats next? Hunting BBW with rocks like a caveman?

These guys are some sort of elitist group! It is right up there with driven pheasants and a 20,000 dollar SXS!

If I hear one more tree hugger tell me I need to use a bow I'm going to start hunting prius tires with a knife!

End Rant

Nothing wrong with a driven pheasant hunt or a $20,000 S X S. Don't knock it 'til you try it. I will say though; that most of those guys are not elitists. And, a $20,000 shotgun is far from the most expensive one in the field........
