AZ Javelina

Alright, here's the issue. Trying to get the father-in-law, my pops, and myself out for a little javelina hunting in the spring in AZ. Father-in-law used to hunt a zone that was sold off by BLM and now it's all posted, so he's out of ideas of where to go. I'd like to get them both out because I'm getting married next August and just think itd be a good old time. ANYWAYS, been looking on the net and have found mixed reviews about zone 37A. Looks pretty good but not sure. Would like some first-hand advice/guidance if availible. Or any other zone that is decent. I'd be coming from the San Diego area so if there are any good zones closer to CA, feel free to list those first. Thanks fellas.

37A is hit or miss. Try the 36 units (A,B,C), there are higher densities in the southern part of the state.

I have hunted area 36 A,B,C for the last ten years. Our group (Usually 5-9 Hunters) averages 50%-75% in 36B. Good camping spots on the Wild Life Refuge also. Primitive camping though so you have to bring everything with you and take it all out. The town of Aravaca and Sasabe are within 1/2 hour drive if you need supplies. Just don't be picky about what you want.
36A has some decent hunting also.

Hi CMR,
Since 1989 I've been hunting only one unit for javelina-34A. Lots of Nat. Forest land . Now I'm not going to give directions to my "honey hole" but, if you enter in east of Amado (east of I-19) and a little south you will find animals. Look for "quartz". You don't need to hike all the way to the "quartz" just get in the general areas.

Beware! Every tree and bush has thorns! You can get by with jeans, but I usually wear cordura chaps over jean shorts. And I wear a long sleeve shirt (or jean jacket if it's cool all day) for as long as I can each day-helps keep me from bleeding over the landscape.

For boots, I prefer all leather. I stopped wearing "sift sided" boots when I kicked into a prickly pear one year-once was enough; The pain was so bad I nearly passed out.

Downtown tucson used to have a stable population of javelina as did the area around the az sonora living desert museum where one of the grad students trapped woofers for his MS degree project.
