We did the meet and greet at Safeway. We started our hunt after the tour. I ended up paying a little more $$ to hunt turkeys since we heard so many gobbleing. I headed to a spot and started hiking, about an hour into it I heard some gobbles coming from the valley below me. I gave a couple yelps and got an immediate responce. I dropped down off a ridge and got to the bottom, started calling and kept getting gobbles. I stopped for a while, ranged some trees in front of me, 20 yards, 30 yards and then 40. Then all of a sudden I see two heads pop up and are gobbleing like crazy. They seen something they didn't like and held up about 35 yards but behind some brush. They started getting a little nervous and started heading out, I gave a couple yelps and they kind of froze. I didn't have much of a shot but only a small window to shoot through, figured they were at 40 yards. Drew back and let it fly, just over its back...............then they were gone!
Next day, headed to a different spot. Got dropped off and started heading out. Came over a small rise and on the other side was three hogs bedded under a oak tree. I knocked an arrow, picked a spot with my 20 yard pin, yep 20 yard pin! I let one go, hit the closest hog to me. The other two headed out and the one I hit kind of spun in a couple circles then stopped, but this time there was another Muzzy on it's way.
End result........... first archery kill!
He was a 250# boar with 2.5" cutters. Heck of a hog!
I just want to thank Chopper for a great hunt and a great place to stay. This property is loaded with game, and the cabin makes this hunt very comfortable when you get back from a long day of hunting.
Thanks to Mike for picking my fat arse up a few times and helping out as much as you did. You guys are great and made this hunt a great experience.
I WILL BE BACK!!!
