I'm possibly interested in a bear hunt with hounds in the Sierras this year. Ideally somewhere in the Southern Sierra. This would be an archery hunt. I'm having a tough time finding many choices. Mike Berry and Bill Sweetser seem to be about the only ones I can find. I know there are more but there is not much info out there. Anyone have any experience with these two or other bear guides?

I know the guys from North Powder Outfitters book bear hunts. They're darn near 100% opportunity if not at it. They are all north of Sacramento but the guide (Jason) is pretty cool and he'll work his ass off for you.

Jason at Northern Powder is a great guide I was going to hnt bear with him last year. Judging frm his hog hunts the man will bend over backwards to make your hun successful. He has a bunch of good Bear areas, but he doesn't use dogs.

I looked into his operation and he's just to far for me. I want something in the southern half of the state so I can make the hunt over a 3 day weekend.

I know someone. If you want to pay, it's $1800 for a trophy bear (P&Y and bigger), guaranteed. He's 100%. Private ranches, one of which I hunted for 15 minutes before they had a B&C bear bayed! Let me know. If you are patient, I can get it done for free. I just have rotten luck on the big bears. Ed F

This may sound silly but it's entirely true. There was a handful of times this past year we'd be at a gas station somewhere in D7 and see a truck with hounds pull up. We'd make small talk and pretty soon, we'd have some hounds to hunt behind...for free. We never took anybody up on it since I had my bear a half hour into the opener. Happened at least three times that I can remember. A lot of the guys just want to get out and run the dogs. It might not be all that realistic since your down south but worth a thought.

I know things often work that way. Unfortunately I don't have those kind of chance meetings with houndsmen very often.
